Have you ever listened to a band that
really caught you off guard by their talent? Well, that happened to me this
week. Not only was I surprised by their ability to deliver a great sound, but I
was also touched by their lyrics. This week, Awolnation really caught my
attention in a whole new approach. I’ve listened to them in the past but this
time when I heard them, I really focused on the lyrics and the message they
were presenting. Some songs by them that I listened to were Sail, Kill Your Heroes,
All I Need, and Not Your Fault. Each song has a different melody and that’s why
I really enjoy listening to this band. Awolnation is an American electronic
rock band, formed by Aaron Bruno in 2010 originating out of Los Angeles,
California. The members of this band include Aaron Bruno (vocals), Drew Stewart
(lead guitar), Hayden Scott (drums), David Amezcua (bass guitar, keyboards,
backing vocals), and Kenny Carkeet (rhythm guitar, keyboards, backing vocals). All
the songs I listened to were fantastic but one that really stuck out to me was
Kill Your Heroes. The lyrics in this song really widened my perspective, making
me accept the message it was portraying. My favorite stanza in the song was:
Well I met an old man
dying on a train.
No more destination
no more pain.
Well he said
"one thing, before I graduate...
never let your fear decide your fate."
What got my profound attention in these
lyrics was the way it shows how meeting someone can change a person forever. Also
it shows how older generations can have an effect on younger generations, by
helping to guide them in life. Although all the songs were best hits in my
book, I enjoyed listening to this one the most. Awolnation is a band of
talented and young musicians who never fail to impress my music preferences. I
can’t wait to see what they come out with next!
