Jerry Lee Lewis- A Lasting Sensation

Normally I listen to the type of music that I’m interested in such as country and alternative, but this week I experienced new music that I’m not too familiar with. One example that we listened to during class is an old song called “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On” by Jerry Lee Lewis, the almost king of rock and roll. The rhythm in this song makes you want to get up and dance and just has an overall happy tune to it. Watching Jerry Lee Lewis play the piano is inspiring to me because he truly had an amazing talent and proved it every time he performed. I learned that when he performed he would act crazy and insane to where he was given the nicknames of The Farriday Fireball and The Killer. He was a crazy performer; yet, that’s what made him so fun to watch. His character stunned you and when I watch one of his music videos I enjoy his music more and more each time. He always knew how to put on a memorable show and the energy that comes off during his performance is very exciting. I’ve never really been too interested in this type of music nor do I know too much about it; however, I am looking forward to learning more about this genre. He truly is an amazing, gifted, as well as crazy artist. Allmusic.com stated, “His exploits as a piano-thumping, egocentric wild man with an unquenchable thirst for living have become the fodder for numerous biographies, film documentaries, and a full-length Hollywood movie.” Due to his egotistical and wild side, no wonder he was most parents’ worst nightmare! Anyway, I really enjoyed listening to his style of music and now not only do I recognize Jerry Lee Lewis as a crazy and vain man but as a talented and successful artist who still records and plays to this day. Now that’s true dedication!
