Is It Worth It?

This week during class we watched a very interesting yet effective documentary, titled RiP: A Remix Manifesto, on illegal copy writing. I learned that anyone who downloads music illegally from any source on the web can be easily caught, whether or not they erase their tracks. I myself am a strong believer that this action of using material that doesn't belong to the public for our own use is wrong. I have never stolen music nor do I plan on it. My morals are much higher than that and I would feel guilty way too easily. Even though I would never steal music and I don't believe it's right, the number of lawsuits and the amount of money put into these lawsuits is incredible and a bit ridiculous in my opinion. This documentary taught me that people in this generation are illegally downloading music for their own use and no matter their excuse, it's always wrong and needs to be stopped. I know stopping one person won't change much, but trying to spread the word about how wrong it truly is might make enough of a difference. Stand up for what you believe in, and for me that's working to stop illegal downloading of material that people don't have the right to download. Yes a lot of my friends download music and that's their decision. However, that's one decision I know I don't have to worry about because I would never do that. That's not who I am and if you ask me, it isn't worth the money or any lawsuits for that matter. Think about it the next time you want to take something that doesn't belong to you and remember, is it worth it?
